Traditional Chinese Acupuncture (TCA)

Rooted in the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), this ancient practice views health as a state of balance between the opposing forces of Yin and Yang and the harmonious flow of Qi (vital energy) through the body’s meridian system and the analysis of 5 elements (Water, Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal). By assessing your Qi and stimulating specific acupuncture points along the meridians, it is possible to restore balance and harmony, to the body, mind, and spirit. Whether you’re seeking relief from pain, stress, or a chronic health condition, traditional Chinese acupuncture offers a holistic approach to healing that addresses the root causes of imbalance.

Western Acupuncture VS Traditional Chinese Acupuncture

Unlike traditional Chinese acupuncture, which focuses on restoring balance to the body’s energy system, Western acupuncture is based on scientific evidence and targets specific anatomical points associated with pain relief and physiological responses. It uses a more localized approach, targeting acupuncture points around pain to promote pain relief, reduce inflammation, and enhance healing. TCA can treat a back pain needling the abdomen or a neck pain needling the wrist while in the Western approach most of the needles would be around the sore area on the back/neck. Moreover, the Western technique of Dry Needling would focus on the trigger/tender points (points of soreness and radiation) in the muscles, and often the needle needs to be moved up/down in/out of the muscle mass, until the muscle will fully relax, and soreness disappear. Instead, in the TCM/TCA approach, needles applied far or/and near the area, and would stay inserted up to around 28-30 mins, to give the Qi (vital energy) to complete a full cycle through all meridians. Both techniques are very effective, although the TCM/TCA is more holistic and  global+local long lasting effects. At Hito, Alessio, went beyond standard physiotherapy expertise, studying Advanced Acupuncture which incorporates the Western Approach with some basic principles of TCM. This is why Alessio went even beyond that, combining his Advanced Acupuncture with his Advanced Myofascial Induction Therapy, Chakra Healing, Somato-Emotional and Sound Healing skills to further provide a quite unique holistic experience. At Hito, All Practitioners often use Gua Sha tools in their therapies since they are great to improve the Myofascia reducing adhesion and restrictions. The tools we use are made of bones, horns, wood or metal and we select the right one based on the symptoms and the location of the pain.
