Holistic Physiotherapy

Holistic Physiotherapy at Hito goes beyond conventional treatments. Physiotherapy focuses on restoring movement and function when someone is affected by injury, illness, or disability. At Hito, we integrate this evidence-based practice with the ancient knowledge of the Eastern cultures, as the main pillar of our holistic philosophy, delving deeper to understand the root cause of your condition. Through personalised assessments and treatments, we address not only the symptoms but also the underlying imbalances in your body, mind, and energy.

Standard physiotherapy usually focuses the treatment mostly on the hurting area, sometimes making a few other connections, like between your posture and biomechanics. The treatment is mostly based on some type of massage, joint mobilisation or manipulation, prescribing exercises and integrating with therapeutic devices (like laser, ultrasound, magneto or electro therapy, etc).

We offer a totally different approach where we consider as an important part of the healing process a deep analysis of the patient in his wholeness as a person, taking into consideration anything else that could potentially be involved with the current symptoms. For example, an internal organs entrapment (as restriction of the visceral fascia, the system of membranes wrapping and hanging each organ in the body) could be behind the origin of a neck pain (intestine), upper back pain (stomach, pancreas, duodenum, Gallbladder, liver), lower back pain (intestine, uterus, ovaries, previous C-sections, urinary tract, etc).

A visceral entrapment can be caused by an excessive diet (too many carbs, fats, protein, drinks, etc), a restricted scar (like from a previous abdominal surgery) but also negative thoughts, rumination, emotions can create tightness in the involuntary digestive muscles. In any case, this can lead towards an organ malfunction which can also be reflected in the spine as vertebral misalignment and muscle tightness.

The spinal cord runs in the spine and controls all the organs and limbs through various nerves coming out in between vertebrae: a previous injury can misalign the spine which will affect the nerve creating an organ malfunction on the long term or, in the opposite direction, the emotional suffering and/or the diet imbalances can generate, on the long term, an organ malfunction which will affect the relate nerve root which can rotate the vertebra above or below, creating spinal pain and muscles tightness even far from the affected organ.

An abdominal scar, or any scar, to repair itself needs lots of collagen fibres which will create like a patch. This will perfectly close the previous wound but also create tightness, restriction, jamming the layers below, reducing the blood flow therefore creating local entrapments and systemic compensations, like if you are wearing a dress or a suit with a tight area or extra sewing. If the scar is big and restricted enough, then can pull other organs or the lower back from the inside or create an abdominal asymmetry when moving which will reflect in different gait or will twist the trunk, enough to make over work certain muscle or a joint even far like a wrist or the ankle.

Moreover, what if we consider reflexology or our energy system? The spine, the other joints or the organs can manifest their issues even very far. For example, there is a spine projection (spinal reflexology) on the thumb, on the top and behind the head, around the ear, in each limb and along the medial side of the sole. We can treat back pain directly around the vertebrae or far in one of its projections.

There is also a projection of each body part in the palm, ears and feet soles. So, a foot pain or palm pain could be the reflection of many other root causes.

A tennis elbow or epicondylitis can reveal an imbalance of the Solar Plexus and the related organs (stomach, duodenum, liver) or some issue with the large intestine since the related meridian passes for the external epicondyle. An anterior knee pain could be a simple tightness of the quad or a misalignment of the joint after a sprain but also an issue with the meridians passing there like the stomach, spleen and gallbladder or liver.

A shoulder pain could be due to biomechanics but also to an energy imbalance in the Throat, some issue with the stomach (left shoulder) or liver (right shoulder), or other imbalances with the lung, large/small intestine meridians. This way to explore each condition from all possible perspectives is the main reason behind our successful rate of fully recovered cases (over 96%) because finding the primary cause helps to speed the recovery and eradicate the condition.
