Carpal Tunnel, Wrist and Hand Pain

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition caused by compression of the median nerve in the wrist, leading to pain, numbness, and tingling in the hand and fingers. Wrist and hand pain can also result from arthritis, tendinitis, or fractures.

Standard Medical Approach:

  • Diagnosis: Physical exams, nerve conduction studies, and imaging tests.
  • Treatment: Pain relievers, anti-inflammatories, wrist splints, physiotherapy, and sometimes surgery.

Hito Holistic Approach

  • Diagnosis: Detailed assessment including physical, postural, energetical, emotional, and lifestyle factors.
  • Treatment: The carpal tunnel syndrome is due to a wrong alignment of the hand to the forearm and the misalignment of 2-4 wrist bones which is related to other potential misalignments in the elbow and the shoulder. The priority is to fix these misalignments through manual therapy and manipulations while reducing the tension of the transverse carpal ligament through myofascial releases and wrist gentle tractions. In energy medicine the wrist corresponds to the throat chakra and the neck, while the hand to the head and the brow/crown chakra. Multiple meridians are related to the carpal tunnel wrist and hand but usually the pericardium and triple energiser are the most important as the heart. Acupuncture and acupressure of these points can really help while soft tissue massage, Gua Sha, and Neuromuscular Taping can make a huge difference.
