Foot & Ankle

Foot and ankle pain refers to discomfort or pain in the foot or ankle area. Causes include sprains, fractures, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinitis, and arthritis. It can affect walking and standing.

Standard Medical Approach:

  • Diagnosis: Physical exams, imaging tests like X-rays, MRIs, or ultrasounds.
  • Treatment: Pain relievers, anti-inflammatories, physiotherapy, orthotics, and sometimes surgery.

Hito Holistic Approach

  • Diagnosis: Detailed assessment including physical, postural, energetical, emotional, and lifestyle factors.
  • Treatment: The first intervention in a foot or ankle condition is to realign the ankle and the foot bones and in particular to recentre the talus which is a bone in the middle of the ankle which is often misaligned due to previous sprains, wrong gait or postures, tension in the spiral lines, wrong footprint, etc. Then it is important through the myofascial techniques to release the ankle and foot restrictions, even using gentle tractions, mobilisation or by prolonged and gentle releases of the plantar fascia and Achilles. In energy medicine the ankle corresponds to the throat chakra and the neck, while the foot to the head and the brow/crown chakra. In Chinese medicine multiple meridians are related to the foot and ankle, like the stomach, liver, spleen, gallbladder (all part of the Solar Plexus but the gallbladder also connected to the brow chakra), kidney, bladder (both related to the first chakra. Acupuncture and acupressure of these points can locally rebalance the energy and vital force. The energy healing can rebalance the related chakras. Soft tissue and lymphatic massage, Gua Sha can further promote release and drainage. Neuromuscular Taping can remove restrictions, increase blood flow and give ankle foot support.
